SAFE Center Joins 72 Organizations in Opposing Changes to the USCIS Policy Manual

On August, 14, 2020 the SAFE Center for Human Trafficking Survivors joined 79 national, state, and local advocacy organizations for survivors of violence and human trafficking in a Joint Comment Submitted in Response to USCIS Policy Manual Chapters Applying Discretion in USCIS Adjudications; 1 USCIS-PM E.9 and 10 USCIS-PM A.5.

The joint response firmly opposes changes to the USCIS Policy Manual that undermine the bipartisan and humanitarian objectives of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act by enabling USCIS officers to easily and arbitrarily deny basic immigration benefits such as work permits and green cards if the applicants fail a subjective discretionary test.
